The Founder's Contract
Here's the deal when it opens. Purchases go live once it's playable.
What "alpha" means here
HexBench is still being built. It isn't finished, and it's not for sale yet. When the Founder's Alpha opens, you'll get the app as it stands then, and every core update from there. Some corners are rough, some features are still landing. If you'd rather wait for 1.0, fair enough. Leave your email and I'll say when.
Hosting is licensed. Playing is free.
One person activates HexBench Host and runs the server. Everyone else downloads the closed-source native client and joins free, with no per-player fee or required HexBench account. The client includes the creative tools; the server can grant any participant player, builder, co-GM, or GM capabilities.

Do my players need to buy HexBench?
No. Only the person running the server needs a host license. Everyone else downloads the native client and joins free.
Can free players build or help GM?
Yes. Everyone uses the same client. A host can grant someone builder, co-GM, or GM capabilities for that server. The free client cannot start a server by itself.
Is an alpha stable enough to use?
Yes for building and running games. Some features are still landing and a few corners are rough. You get every core update as it ships. If you'd rather wait for 1.0, that's fair.
Is this a subscription?
No. A host license is a one-time purchase. Alpha, beta, and retail licenses keep their hosting rights permanently.
Any microtransactions?
No. No microtransactions or battle pass. Core updates stay with the host license. A future expansion may be a separate optional purchase, but it will not replace the base hosting license.
Can I move my host license?
Yes. The client can be installed freely. A host license activates one server device at a time: deactivate the old device to move immediately, or use a 24-hour recovery transfer if the old device is unavailable.
Can I run it on my own machine?
Yes. HexBench Host runs on your own computer or VPS, and your campaign data stays on hardware you control.
What if I want a refund?
Refund requests are handled case-by-case within 14 days of purchase. Email me at hello@hexbench.gg.
Do I need to be online to use it?
Players need network access to reach the server they are joining. HexBench Host uses the license service for activation, transfers, and license validation; ordinary game traffic goes directly to the host.
Can I build and sell modules?
Yes. The Plugin SDK is MIT licensed. Your creations are your property. Sell them, share them, whatever you want.
Is HexBench open source?
No. The client, host package, server, editor, and internal tools are proprietary and closed-source. The separately published Plugin SDK and explicitly identified components use their own open licenses.
